Results:
Patients with psychological distress compared to those with a Mental Health Inventory (MHI) 5 score of >68, had: – 1.8-fold higher mortality rate – 1.7-fold higher risk of having a CVD event Psychological distress was not associated with the ability to meet: – Treatment targets for HbA1c levels, cholesterol levels or BP – To redeem antihypertensive or lipid-lowering drug treatment
Conclusion:
Diabetic patients with psychological distress at the time of diagnosis had a higher risk of CVD events and death than those without psychological distress, especially in diabetes patients *detected and treated early.
Explanation:
Distress caused by the news of being diagnosed with diabetes can cause CVD or even death .
